A Complete Guide about Polyester Films

BY Jacob IN No comments

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyester is the most common thermoplastic polyester which is mainly known as "polyester". It is hard, strong, stiff and dimensionally stable material that absorbs very little water and has really good chemical resistance and gas barrier properties.

Polyester film is manufactured by using high-quality resins and state of the art technology and this film has an excellent mechanical and thermal stability. Because of this reason, it is a preferred substrate for numerous applications. The polyester film manufacturers are chiefly engaged in manufacturing and supplying Polyester Films of very good quality for yarn, electrical and packaging applications.

The polyester film has features as follows:
  1. Excellent moisture and chemical resistance.
  2. Good thermal performance.
  3. Good printing effect
  4. Good lamination adhesion
  5. Good mechanical properties and tensile strength
  6. Excellent electrical insulation
  7. Has gas and aroma barrier properties
Even without the use of additives to increase its strength, polyester film is very strong and lightweight and less material is required for packaging which means less fuel is used for shipping when using polyester film packaging. Major consumers of polyester film is the textile industry which consumes for about 60% of the total. Other is used by bottling and packaging industry.

Applications of the polyester films
  • Polyester film is a perfect choice for applications in the food and non-food applications.
  • It is majorly used in the microwave, medical packaging, plastic wrap, printed films, tape backing, plastic cards, etc.
  • It is also used for protective coatings such as solar and safety window films, release films and flexible printed circuits.
  • Used in X-ray film, printer ribbons, membrane switches, holograms, laser printer labels, barcode labels, computer graphics, inkjet products and many more.
  • Polyester film is used as an aroma barrier film for e.g. coffee and aroma packaging which improves the barrier against oxygen, water vapor, and aroma loss.
Due to its high chemical resistance, low odor, and inertness, polyester film grades are suitable for packaging applications under Food and Drug Administration regulations.
